Ontdekt in de privétuin van Christopher Boyds, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, VK, 1858. In cultuur gebracht door William Paul (1822-1905) in 1866 onder de naam ‘Paul’s New Double Scarlet’. De bekende, dubbelbloemige rode meidoorn. Hoogte tot 10 m, breed kegelvormige, later ovaalronde, zeer dichte kroon. Voor parken, grotere tuinen en als straatboom op goede stevige grond (voor goede verankering) in wind beschutte straten.
