Geïntroduceerd in Europa in 1916 door Ernest Henry Wilson (1876-1930). Een oude Amerikaanse, kleine treurvorm met elegant neerhangende takken, vaak tot de grond reikend. Hoogte ruim 2 m, breed spreidend tot 3 m. Blad als de soort. Bloeit begin april, in knop zeer lichtroze, open vrijwel wit, 20 mm. Specifieke tuinplant voor kleine tuinen, ook voor laag ommuurde plantvakken in winkelcentra en voetgangersgebieden. Zeer geschikt voor prieelvorming over latwerk.
